Senior Front End Developer & Development Director

Role Overview

Elegant Seagulls, Inc. is seeking a dynamic Senior Front-End Developer & Development Director (remote) to lead our development team in delivering enterprise level web products. This dual role combines hands-on front-end development expertise with strategic leadership to drive project success and elevate our technical capabilities.

As a technical and strategic leader, you will collaborate with designers, developers, project managers, and clients to plan and build intuitive, performant, and scalable user interfaces. You will also oversee the development team, mentor talent, and ensure adherence to best practices and modern methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

Front-End Development

  • Develop and maintain complex web applications (primarily customer facing websites)  using React and Vue.js, ensuring high performance and accessibility.

  • Architect reusable and scalable components and frameworks.

  • Collaborate with designers to translate designs and APIs into responsive, user-friendly interfaces.

  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.

  • Ensure code quality through reviews, testing, and adherence to best practices.

Headless CMS Integration

  • Lead the integration of various headless CMS platforms (e.g., Contentful, Sanity, Kontent AI, Prismic and others) into front-end applications.

  • Create modular, API-driven architectures for flexible content management solutions.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging CMS technologies and assess their potential for client solutions.

Leadership and Management

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to the development team.

  • Set development standards and ensure team adherence to modern workflows and tools (e.g., Git, CI/CD, Agile).

  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and clients to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Stay informed about industry trends and drive innovation in the agency’s tech stack and development practices.

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing professional development for the development team.


Requirements

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in front-end frameworks: Expert-level experience with React and Vue.js.

  • JavaScript/TypeScript expertise: Advanced understanding of modern JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, and their ecosystems.

  • Headless CMS experience: Proven track record of integrating and working with CMS platforms such as Contentful, Sanity, or others.

  • HTML/CSS proficiency: Deep knowledge of semantic HTML, CSS3, SCSS, and responsive design principles.

  • API and GraphQL experience: Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and tools like Apollo Client.

  • Toolchain knowledge: Experience with bundlers like Vite and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

  • Server-side rendering experience (e.g., Next.js or Nuxt.js).

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG).

  • Familiarity with WordPress is nice to have.

  • Familiarity with AWS is nice to have. 

Leadership Skills

  • Proven experience leading technical teams in a creative or agency environment.

  • Strong communication & organizational skills with a history of delivering projects on time and within budget.

  • Ability to mentor and upskill developers of varying experience levels.

General Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional front-end development experience.

  • 1+ years in a leadership or management role.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and an eye for detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

  • Ability to travel for client work (less than 5% of the time)
